Hand-sewn back to school: 2 looks, 1 Grenadine skirt

Back to school in hand-sewn style: 2 inspiring outfits with the Grenadine mini-skirt

Back to school is fast approaching and with it, the desire to renew your wardrobe. Why not opt for unique and personalized pieces, made with your own hands? Today, we offer you two inspiring outfits around the free pattern of the Grenadine mini-skirt , a little gem launched this summer and which will also be perfect for fall.

We'll guide you through the creation of two distinct looks, showcasing the versatility of the Grenadine skirt: a chic and slightly rock style with the Tigris trench in greige gabardine and the Grenadine skirt in Fauve Party jacquard, and an elegant and timeless touch with the Métropolis jacket in black and ecru crochet.

Outfit 1: Chic and Rock with the Tigris Trench

Tigris is a coat pattern that we launched last winter, and we offer you the complementary pieces in PDF format for free to create a trench coat perfect for fall. The trench coat is a must-have in a woman's wardrobe, and the greige gabardine gives it a sober and refined elegance. It will be perfect to tone down the more rock look of the duo Grenadine skirt in "graouuu waouuuhhh" Fauve Party jacquard and Skyline light denim shirt. I combined the jacquard with a silver piping available on our site, in order to highlight the signature cut of the skirt.

To complete the outfit, I chose a nice pair of slightly chunky ankle boots, like chunky boots, but nice cowboy boots or biker boots will stay in the same rock spirit. Nice riding boots will be a more classic but also more elegant choice. Here, the Skyline denim shirt is tied, it's a rather casual style, but you can have a more formal look by sewing it in white tencel and simply tucking it into your skirt.

Outfit 2: Elegant and timeless with the Crochet Metropolis Jacket

The Metropolis jacket is a pretty box jacket, with a very nice slightly short cut and trompe l'oeil buttoning. After having sewn it in wool, jacquard and tweed, I wanted to test our brand new crochet fabric for a little Chanel cardigan look.

The result is just perfect: I love the knitted jacket side, and the stripes nicely punctuate the otherwise classic cut of the jacket. I play to the limit with the codes of the famous fashion house by associating with my outfit small two-tone black and beige pumps, a nod to the timeless Chanel sling back dear to Coco.

The white blouse, crochet jacket and little beige gabardine skirt combo is very effective, so I completed the outfit with my Atlas blouse in white tencel: recognizable at first glance thanks to its beautiful pleats on the front bust and as a reminder on the cuffs, Atlas is the perfect alternative to the white shirt. Its buttoned neckline in the style of a Tunisian collar can be buttoned higher or lower according to your desires, and its pretty volume is vaporous in a fabric with a beautiful drape.

Focus on crochet sewing technique

I give you some recommendations for sewing a jacket in our crochet mesh :

  • I chose the version without stripes of the Metropolis jacket so as not to weigh down the model due to the choice of fabric. And I did not add an epaulette, in order to keep the DNA of the cardigan-style knitted jacket of the garment.

  • Cut your pieces cleanliness back neckline and front facing in a non-knit fabric, here I cut my pieces in our black cotton voile, it goes well with the crochet and your jacket will always be impeccable even if it opens while walking. Allow about 70 cm of fabric to cut these pieces.

  • Interface the back neckline and front facing pattern pieces as indicated withVlieseline G700 , but avoid placing iron-on adhesive on the bottom of the sleeves and the bottom of the jacket.

  • Our crochet mesh does not have the elasticity of a sweatshirt type knit, and we sewed it without difficulty with a classic straight stitch without needing an overlocker. In addition, the Metropolis jacket is lined, so the reverse side of the seams will be well protected. For the lining, you will need a fabric that slides in order to feel comfortable. I recommend our off-white cupro lining, perfect for the model.

  • To make sewing buttonholes easier, place a tissue paper or parchment paper between your fabric and the feed dog of your machine and experiment with the settings. I chose a buttonhole setting for medium to heavyweight fabric with rounded ends and lengthened the stitch length a bit.
