Pilar is tackling the new school year... on velvet paws!
Your favorite women's jacket pattern is getting a back-to-school look
For the moment, the temperatures remain very summery but the evenings will gradually cool down and the opportunity to put on a pretty Pilar jacket will present itself! This pretty pattern was your mega favorite from the La Movida Fauvista collection . I declined it in denim, in jacquard, I saw magnificent versions in gabardine but for the fall I really really wanted to sew myself a Pilar in velvet… Tadammm here is my new jacket and in white to make the summer light last.
Pilar is a jacket pattern that has more than one trick up its sleeve: the ideal length so that your back is not exposed when you sit down, a version with a pretty pleat in the back, lots of contrasting or not topstitching and the famous Maison Fauve signature: the sunray pleat on the shoulders. It is these little embellishments that will give a lot of character to the timeless piece that is the denim jacket, and the least we can say is that this short jacket pattern is not lacking in temperament.
I sewed my Pilar in the magnificent Atelier Brunette thick ribbed velvet (off white color) . They have a whole range of cotton velvet in really splendid colors (I have a Night color coupon to sew a Pilar for my mother who is patiently waiting for her turn). And I find that the pleats stand out well on this fabric. It is not difficult to sew as long as you respect the direction of the velvet when cutting and be careful when ironing so as not to shine it. The buttons are also from Atelier Brunette . I did not want jeans-style buttons for this version, I liked the idea of giving it an elegant touch with these jewel-like buttons.
I slipped a pretty Paola top under my Pilar, sewn in purple broderie anglaise. The bold color contrasts nicely with the jacket and paired with jeans, it's a perfect back-to-school outfit: I can still enjoy the sun in my pretty bare back and I put my jacket on over it.
Couture inspirations around velvet fabrics
I have also prepared some sewing inspiration boards for you with commercial jackets and velvet fabrics by the meter in colors that I find really beautiful ( corduroy fabric, green, burgundy or brick velvet fabric for your future back-to-school sewing projects).
See you soon, I can't wait to tell you more about the collection that will be arriving very soon at Maison Fauve!

A bientôt
