Maison Fauve cotton satins
In order to offer you fabrics that are perfectly suited to our sewing patterns, we have been working for several seasons to find materials that will ensure you have a hand-sewn project without a false note.
The SS 2023 "La Piscine" collection included the Tremplin cargo pants pattern : an ambitious sewing project, with real work in constructing the pattern, and lots of pretty details. Having the perfect fabric and a range of buttons really thought out for these pants seemed essential to me, because I want seamstresses to be able to imagine without apprehension sewing clothes that rival the most beautiful ready-to-wear pieces. And I chose a fabric that provides comfort, a beautiful fit, and above all longevity of the seams when worn and washed: elastane cotton satin.
What is cotton satin?
The term satin (just as I already explained to you for the term jacquard in this article ) does not refer to a material, but to a weaving technique. The satin finish is the result of an extremely tight and dense weave of textile fibers. There is polyester satin, silk satin, viscose satin, and therefore cotton satin.
Our cotton satin fabric will have a slightly satin finish on the right side, and for the needs of our sewing projects, we have chosen a weight of 200 g/m2 with a specific composition of 97% cotton and 3% elastane. Its hold is perfect, without too much stiffness, and it is easy to care for and iron. The elastane will also make it less creased.
How to sew cotton satin?
Our cotton satin is an easy material to sew: it does not slip at all, cuts easily, and does not deform when assembled.
How to properly prepare your cotton satin fabric before sewing
We recommend that before sewing your coupon you wash it at 30° , on a delicate program, and do not leave it in the machine after washing to avoid fold lines forming. Shake your fabric well once washed to remove creases and lay it flat.
Always iron your fabric well
Before coming to transfer your pattern pieces, iron your coupon well at medium temperature (iron pictogram with 2 dots) at a maximum of 150°C.
Choice of needles
For all projects sewn with our cotton satin fabric, we used Schmetz universal needles with a diameter of 80. The gauge is perfect, especially when it comes to joining several layers without risking damaging your fabric. (for example, for mounting a belt, fly, belt loops, etc.).
How do I finish my seams?
Our cotton satin does not fray much, so it is not necessary to overlock your pieces BEFORE sewing . On the other hand, once your pieces are assembled and in order to guarantee the longevity of your clothes (especially if they are not lined) we recommend that you overlock or serge your seam allowances. You can also put a bias to trim the seam allowances, your interior finishes will thus have a "decorative" aspect (you know, those little details that only seamstresses know how to appreciate hihihi). In any case, we always indicate to you in our assembly ranges, and in our free video tutorials , at which stage to finish your seams.
Choosing the right book
Our range of cotton satin will allow you to make many sewing projects. We have also chosen a timeless color range, so that you can plan many sewing projects.

A beautiful structured wide leg pant like the Brooklyn palazzo pants . The characteristic pleats of the model, and the beautiful width of the leg will be perfectly highlighted. -
A very constructed pair of pants, with many pieces like the Tremplin cargo pants . The cotton satin will allow you to sew the stitched pleats at the knee, the rounded details of the pockets very easily, and it will provide the ideal flexibility for a comfortable fit. The satin finish will also add an elegant touch to this type of pants which is originally a utility garment.
