Inspirations and advice on fabric + pattern combinations

Pattern ideas compatible with La Flamenca fabrics

  • Lunares poplins : for summer tops, pretty dresses, and dancing skirts, polka dots are the summer hit not to be missed. For quick, easy, and fabric-efficient sewing projects, we recommend pretty tops like the Belle Épine top , the Salto top , and the Marisa top . For a cloud of polka dots with undeniable charm, a beautiful dress like Cuba Libre , Rosalie , or the Highland ruffled skirt will ensure you're a perfect fit.

  • The Red Flamenco Poetry jacquard : the The Rosalie dress is sumptuous in Flamenco Red Poésie jacquard. Your favorite pattern of the season will turn up the heat!

  • Pampa jacquard : in this fabric, the Damascus jacket has a faux chaquetilla feel. A piece with a strong character, wildly elegant. And why not a total look, paired with the Grand Bain shorts . A beautiful Dandelion jacket , or a Métropolis jacket would also be a wise choice.

  • Red Tango Tencel Satin : The Luz dress 's sleek cut and twist of ruffles and side seams beautifully showcase the movement of the tencel satin. A beautiful Skyline blouse or a Highland ruffled skirt will also look great in this beautiful, soft, lightweight fabric.

  • Lightweight off-white tweed : the pretty Calypso jacket has been making you melt this winter, discover it in a more summery version in ecru tweed, bright and elegant. It will be the perfect jacket to wear on summer evenings for a wedding. And of course, the Pilar jacket , the Damas spencer or the Manhattan suit jacket will not resist the elegance of ecru tweed.

FAQ – Capsule La Flamenca Maison Fauve

Can I buy fabrics by the meter?

Yes, all fabrics in the capsule collection are available by the yard on the Maison Fauve website. Our fabrics are sold in 10 cm increments; for example, if you want to buy 1.40 m of fabric, you'll need to add 14 units to your cart.

Is there a new pattern associated with this capsule?

No, there won't be any new patterns in this capsule collection. Instead, I wanted to showcase our new fabrics sewn into patterns you already know, and bring back to the forefront certain styles like the Highland ruffled skirt and the Luz ruffled dress.

Are the fabrics suitable for beginners?

Yes, our beautiful Lunares polka dot poplins are very easy to sew: they don't slip, they don't stretch, and they iron easily.

Tencel satin and viscose jacquard are slightly slippery fabrics that require more care. These fabrics are very suitable for beginners, provided you choose a sewing project with few pieces, such as a top, a dress or a blouse with few pieces, for example the Palma top, the Violette blouse or the Transat dress.

Pampa jacquard and tweed are easy fabrics to sew but they fray a little, I recommend finishing your seams with an overlocker or planning to trim your seam allowances for pretty finishes and more durable sewing.

Should I double some fabrics?

It all depends on your project. For our printed fabrics with dark backgrounds (Lunares Mocha and Encre poplin), there's no need to line your garments. The same goes for Tango Red Tencel Satin and Flamenco Red Poésie Jacquard; there's no need to include a lining in addition to your pattern's usual instructions.
For printed fabrics with a light background, a lining may be considered, especially for dresses or skirts. However, with suitable lingerie, this is not essential.

When it comes to Pampa jacquard and ecru tweed, a lining will be a plus to improve the comfort of your fitted jackets. For a straight jacket or a blouson, you can choose not to line these fabrics; the reverse side is as pretty as the front. We're here to help you sew an unlined jacket with this sewing tutorial .

On some fabrics, such as tweed, Pampa jacquard or tencel satin, it is not easy to distinguish the wrong side from the right side, or both sides are equally pretty... Which side should you sew?

Look and touch your coupon. On some fabrics, the selvedges (edges of the width) have small holes that are due to the manufacturing process. Observe and touch these holes; on the reverse side they will be slightly marked and rather smooth, and on the right side they will be more marked, as if raised and rough. This advice will be particularly relevant for tencel satin. However, the choice of the reverse and the right side of the fabric will be at your convenience , and will not affect the success of your work. But here are the particularities for each fabric:

  • For tweed, the weaving work highlights the different threads to a greater or lesser extent, particularly those in relief (we have favored the most textured side for the right side).

  • For the Pampa jacquard, it all depends on whether you want to exploit the strength of the contrast with the darker background or stick to shades of gray (we favored the side with the black background and the most visible flowers in our visuals).

  • For the tencel satin, one side is more "bright and satiny" and the other more matte, we have favored the satin side for the front.

Which lining should I choose for Pampa tweed or jacquard?

We offer a lovely range of cupro linings (more breathable than polyester) on our website. If you want a lining whose color echoes the main fabric, choose powdery tones (Cloud, Pastel Green, and Snow) for the off-white tweed. For the Pampa jacquard, the colors Dark Olive, Taupe Gray, and Black will remain in the same color range.
But contrast is allowed if you feel like it!

How much fabric do I need to sew my blouse/dress/shorts/jacket, etc.?

All fabric quantities and sewing supplies required are listed by size gradation on each pattern's product sheet. These values are given for a 140 cm width.

Can these fabrics be used for projects other than clothing?

Absolutely! Jacquard or tweed are great choices for accessories like hand-sewn bags or clutches to match your outfit. And for unique decorative pieces, why not sew jacquard cushions or a throw?

Will there be a video format available to showcase your new fabrics?

Yes! A podcast episode will be dedicated to the La Flamenca capsule collection, providing in-depth details about the fabrics and giving you pattern ideas for sewing them. A fashion show featuring the shoot's outfits will also be posted on Maison Fauve's Instagram.
