Sewing pattern tutorial: the Primrose dress
Primrose is a skater dress pattern that offers several versions to vary the styles and the level of difficulty:
-
A dress with a deep back neckline stabilized by a neckline band or a dress with a closed back
-
A buttoned pleated/twisted cuff or a pleated/twisted cuff in the style of a sleeve bracelet
-
The possibility of not making the wrist folds by using the inner wrist pattern pieces x2
The skirt is made of panels for a soft and dancing drape, the waistline is dark on the bust in front and supported by an elastic slipped into a belt in the back.
You can sew Primrose in many fabrics: a viscose jacquard for a very elegant version like the Lily viscose jacquard from the Primrose sewing box , but also plain viscose twills or printed viscose poplins like the Léo Scarabée poplin used in this step-by-step sewing video.
Primrose's video tutorial will cover in detail all the technical points covered to sew your dress:
-
Assemble a clean neckline
-
Finish the back neckline neatly with a concealed hem
-
Sew a belt that will serve as a casing for the back elastic
-
Make a tear-proof slit for the buttoned cuff version
-
Assemble a buttoned cuff
-
Put on sleeves
Happy sewing!
