Sewing pattern tutorial: the Cicadella hack

Here is a new tutorial around the Cicadella pattern , which will allow you to make a new version, a short and very easy to sew trapeze dress.

The previous tutorial already available here for the Cicadella blouse pattern presents the advanced level version of the pattern: a lined lace blouse with long sleeves and pointed cuffs.

For this new beginners hack , I offer you a video that will not only explain how to go from the blouse to the Cicadella dress, but also go over the fundamentals of using a sewing pattern.

This unlined short-sleeved dress version shows you in detail the points
following techniques:

• Trace the bust pieces to go from the blouse to the dress

• To make English seams (= no need for an overlocker , your garment will have perfect finishes even if you are a beginner seamstress)

• Assemble princess cutouts

• Sew gathers

• Put on sleeves

• Place a neckline cleanliness, place an armhole bias

I will also give you some sewing tips to make this project a real success!

Fabric consumption

• 34-42 : 200 cm of fabric and 130 cm of lining

• 44-48 : 220 cm of fabric and 150 cm of lining

• 50-52 : 240 cm of fabric and 160 cm of lining

Sectional plans

For this tutorial I sewed our new Jardin Fauve viscose poplin . It is an easy to sew fabric, soft and with a nice drape. The floral pattern is well highlighted by the cut of the dress. I am already imagining a lace dress version, our cotton voiles allowing to compensate for any transparency ;)
