Metropolis Revises Its Classics in Drama Tweed

I told you you hadn't heard the last of this lovely jacket. And for this new version of the Metropolis sewing pattern, I decided to pull out all the stops!

The little black jacket

The inspiration for this pattern was the little black jacket. It's the trademark of the house of Chanel, an iconic garment, a true fashion signature. It marked Gabrielle Chanel's second wind, and its design, so avant-garde for the time, has lost none of its splendor. The designer had set her sights on tweed, a fabric associated with men's clothing, and her jacket was distinguished by its clean, crisp lines. The house of Chanel has reinterpreted this garment many times by its various designers, and a book has even been dedicated to it.

Drama queen in Drama tweed, Metropolis gets into the game

Metropolis is not intended to be a dupe of a Chanel jacket. While we find certain markers like the absence of a collar, the boxy volume, the marked shoulder, I chose to play on the buttoning and I added bands to emphasize the cut and mark the look more strongly. But the hunter is the hunter, and when we received our magnificent black Drama tweed at the workshop, I immediately knew that there would be a meeting between this fabric and this pattern.

And if you play that card, you might as well go all out. Once the jacket was sewn, it was splendid, but I wanted to emphasize the so-Coco spirit of the garment even more. So I added a black braid embroidered with gold, to highlight the neckline, the Metropolis-esque crossover, the bottom of the sleeves, and the pretty pockets.

To embellish your jacket in this way, you need 3 m of braid. Mine is 1.5 cm wide and unfortunately I no longer remember where it came from, but you can easily find very beautiful braid in haberdasheries. I hesitated to simply use a black satin ribbon, the material of which would have contrasted nicely with the fluffy appearance of the Drama tweed, but I didn't have any of this width in the workshop.

Sewing Metropolis in this soft tweed, which is lighter than our Scott cotton tweed, poses no problem: the ease is impeccable, combining the epaulettes / sleeve cap cigarette and the tweed band does not impact the result... In short, mad love for my new jacket!

How to wear your tweed jacket

For these photos I paired my new sewing with my Mia blouse in cappuccino Jazz jacquard , with jeans and a belt with a large buckle. My makeup is discreet, my outfit rather low profile, the precious touch of Metropolis is all the more underlined. In L'Œil Fauve , we propose a series of looks around the little black jacket: in a sailor shirt, with plays of materials, in duo with my Luz Rose Shocking jumpsuit … I feel that I am going to love playing with my Drama Tweed jacket!

I'll see you very soon for a new episode of the Maison Fauve podcast , which will warm up your winter wardrobe :)
