On the Marie Claire Idées operation

Code validity period
From 08/20 to 10/31/2025. After this date, the code will no longer be active and it will no longer be possible to benefit from the "free Scala pattern" offer.

How to use the code?
You must enter it after validating the basket, in the “discount code or gift card” box under the order summary.

Why is the code not available yet even though the pattern is online?
The "free pattern" offer is reserved for readers of Marie Claire Idées magazine. Subscribers receive their copy before the magazine is available on newsstands, so the offer must be active as soon as subscribers receive it. Newsstand sales begin on August 27.

How to use the PDF pattern?
We will guide you through the use of PDF patterns in this article.

Where can I find the magazine?
The magazine will be available at all newsstands and tobacconists. The list is available here .

I bought the pattern on the website and then the magazine, can I get a refund?
The "free pattern" offer is exclusively reserved for code holders and must be entered at the time of purchase. No refunds or credits are possible after the fact.

I have the paper pattern with the magazine, can I also use the code?
Yes, the code is valid for all readers.

I subscribed to the Marie Claire Idées magazine subscription offer via your newsletter, will I receive the magazine with the pattern?
No. For any subscription via the special offer presented in the newsletter, the first issue received will be issue 171 (November-December 2025). You will not receive issue 170. (The newsletter will be sent to all Maison Fauve customers who have subscribed to our newsletter; it will be sent the week of August 25).

Why is the pattern paid for on the site when it is presented as free?
The pattern was created by Maison Fauve as part of a collaboration with Marie Claire Idées. It remains the property of Maison Fauve. Only readers of the magazine can benefit from this offer.

Will the pattern be available in a pocket format?
Yes, after the partnership with Marie Claire Idées expires, we will launch the pocket pattern version of the Scala shirt in November. Furthermore, purchasing the PDF pattern does not entitle you to a discount on the pocket pattern. Purchasing the pocket pattern does not also entitle you to the PDF pattern; they are two different products.

Will the boss remain available after the operation ends? Marie Claire Ideas?
Yes, in PDF on our site, and in pocket format from November.

Do I need to create a customer account to get the free pattern?
Yes, orders on the Maison Fauve website require the creation of a customer account. Additionally, this is a digital pattern, in PDF format, whose files will be stored in your customer area.

What fabrics should I use?
We recommend soft, lightweight fabrics between 70 and 200g/m2, which can be ironed to make pleats easier: poplin, crepe, voile, lace, fine denim like Macadam or chambray, in cotton, viscose, linen, tencel or silk. We sewed the pattern in Lunarès printed viscose poplin, Rouge Tango tencel satin and Horizon viscose voile. You can also use our ecru tencel, dupion fabric, and cotton voiles available on the site.

How does the pattern fit?
The pattern fits true to size. The cut is straight with a certain ease. Do not oversize (sizes shown in the images: MCI model: size 38 / Emilie: size 36).

The pattern is available in sizes 34 to 52, including seam allowances.

You have 2 tools to support you :

Article dedicated to choosing the size

Can I adapt the pattern to my body shape?
Yes, thanks to the free downloadable guide . The pattern has more shorten/lengthen lines for height adjustments.

Can I modify the pattern?
The pattern has a fairly elaborate construction, any transformation is possible provided you have a basic understanding of patternmaking. We do not provide any support other than the detailed step-by-step instructions provided in the brochure and the video sewing tutorial for the Scala pattern.

Can I lengthen Scala into a shirt dress?
Yes. We have already made this type of transformation on other Maison Fauve patterns. See example here .

Why not more women of different body shapes in the visuals?
We plan to include the Scala pattern in the fall/winter collection photoshoot. It's during these photoshoots that we sew and present the patterns on models of different body types. These images will be available on our website from mid-September, integrated into the Scala pattern product page.

Is heat sealing essential?
Yes, to obtain the rendering visible on our product visuals.

Are you having trouble sewing your pattern?
Feel free to check out the free step-by-step sewing video available on our website and YouTube channel. I'll guide you through each step of the sewing process. If you're having trouble with a particular technical aspect, don't hesitate to practice on scraps to discover and master the technique described.

Having trouble printing your PDF pattern?
See printing guide here .

Why is Scala classified as "intermediate"?
Techniques covered:

  • Stitched pleats

  • Button placket

  • Mounting the back riser in a sheath

  • Round fold

  • Collar with collar stand

  • 2-piece sleeve with buttoned cuffs

These different technical points do not require an advanced level of sewing, if you take the time to follow the instructions provided in the assembly booklet and/or the video tutorial available free of charge you do not need an advanced level of sewing to sew the Scala pattern.

Can I double the pattern if the fabric is transparent?
No, the construction doesn't lend itself to this. If you're sewing Scala in sheer or openwork fabrics, we recommend slipping a tank top or camisole under your shirt, such as our Spritz or Blush sewing patterns.

On the fabrics of the Fauve Parade capsule

Tartan-style checked tweed

  • Washing :

    • Overlock the edges of your coupon before putting it in the washing machine.

    • Wash on a delicate cycle and spin gently, using a detergent suitable for delicate fabrics

    • Place the sewn fabric/garment in a laundry net when washing

    • Tumble dryer prohibited

    • Lay flat to dry immediately after washing.

    • For delicate fabrics, always test a sample to confirm washing in your machine.

  • Overcasting : recommended (or trim the seam allowances)

  • Joins : join jump = 10 cm. Add 20 cm of fabric for joins.

  • Is it itchy?: Made of cotton (48%), virgin wool (40%), polyamide (12%). Soft but not ultra-soft weave. We haven't lined the shorts, and the fabric feels comfortable against your skin.

  • How to line my garment sewn in this fabric : for all our garments with a lining, we guide you step by step through the sewing steps. If the pattern does not include a lining, you will have to create the pattern yourself.

  • Recommended bosses : Dandelion, Metropolis, Grand Bain, Grenadine, Reef, Cosmopolitan, Manhattan, Tsar, Pam, Pilar

  • Sewing thread : white, flamenco red or ink

  • Buttons : Aegis, Jewel, Talisman, white/red/ink ranges

  • Matching lining : Midnight Blue, White Silver

HORIZON navy poly viscose voile

  • Is it transparent?: Absolutely not, the term "voile" given by our weaver refers to a fine plain weave, with fine threads woven very tightly and tightly. This fabric is not transparent at all. It is supple and fluid but with a certain hand.

  • Fabric Type : The weaving is done on a loom, it is not printed. It is a plain weave with weft threads dyed before weaving and the warp threads are white.

  • What patterns to sew this fabric : dresses, blouses, shirts, skirts, loose pants, light shorts.

  • Matching : 1.5 cm jump, no adjustment necessary in the recommended lengths.

  • Can I change the direction of the stripes? The stripe on Horizon fabrics is horizontal. If you want to work the fabric with a vertical stripe, you will have to rethink your cutting plans and your yardage for a pattern that consumes more than 1.50m of fabric in 140 width. We are not able to provide you with the desired consumption because it varies depending on the pattern, your grading size and any adjustments. The width is 150cm wide, you will need to place your pieces on a 150cm high rectangle and see the width that your pieces occupy.

  • Width : 150 cm

  • Thread : Ink

  • Buttons : Jewel, Ink or Tango Red

  • Fabric direction : yes (alternating navy, red, white stripes which follow a precise order)

Off-white ecru jeans

  • Stretchable ? : no (100% cotton, 320g/m2)

  • Is it opaque enough : Its weight and weave give this fabric good opacity. We chose it precisely because the twill weave was tight enough to avoid underwear being seen through, provided you opt for plain underwear/without too much contrast.

  • Suggested patterns : Ronsard, Hussard, Récif, Grand Bain, Pilar, Dandelion, Calypso, Metropolis, blazer, Grenadine skirt.

  • Washing instructions : turn the jeans inside out before washing, this limits friction on the outer surface.

    • Wash at 30°C maximum , gentle cycle.

    • Avoid a full drum : prefer washing alone or with other white clothes only.

    • Use a special white detergent (or add a spoonful of bicarbonate to the drum).

    • No fabric softener : it can yellow the fabric over time.
