Easy-to-wear and easy-to-sew trousers

MELLOW was designed to be easy-to-wear trousers that are pleasant to make.

Its details give it its full personality:

• A side stripe to customize with topstitching, piping or a contrasting fabric

• Italian pockets on the front

• Large patch pockets on the back

• An elasticated waistband at the back with a faux button placket at the front for a neat finish

A simple model to sew, but with all the details that make the difference.

What fabrics to choose for sewing MELLOW?

The MELLOW pattern adapts to many materials. Its wide cut at the thigh and elasticated back waist allow for fabrics with more body as well as lighter fabrics, as they will not be constrained when worn.

For a chic version, choose a tailor's wool or a soft jacquard. For more casual trousers, opt for a doupion, gabardine or soft denim.

We recommend fabrics with a nice drape, between 120 and 300 g/m², in compositions such as viscose, cotton, linen, wool or Tencel.

In L’ŒIL FAUVE, MELLOW comes in Ghost Flower printed cotton gabardine, viscose and Tencel lamé, denim, plain gabardine, Clash jacquard, Tencel-linen-cotton doupion, black tailor's wool and black Tiger jacquard.

FAQ – The free MELLOW pattern

❓ Who is the MELLOW pattern for?

MELLOW is a beginner-level pattern. It was designed to allow easy discovery of trouser sewing, thanks to an accessible construction and detailed explanations in the brochure as well as in the free video tutorial.

The main technical points are the assembly of the Italian pocket and the attachment of the elasticated waistband with a front yoke.

❓ What sizes are available for the MELLOW trousers?

The MELLOW pattern is graded from 34 to 52.

The finished garment measurement chart is available in the product photos. We present the trousers on different body types so you can visualize the fit on your silhouette.

The Mellow trousers have been tested in all available size ranges to validate the cut and fit. These are not cigarette or close-fitting trousers; the cut is intentionally a bit wide at the thigh. If you are between 2 sizes, or for a slightly more fitted look, choose one size down.

❓ Are seam allowances included?

Yes, seam allowances are included in the pattern.

They are 1 cm.

❓ How much fabric do I need to sew MELLOW?

For a width of 140 cm:

• sizes 34-36: 160 cm

• sizes 40-42: 170 cm

• size 44: 180 cm

• sizes 46-52: 200 cm

You will also need:

• 10 cm of fusible interfacing type Vlieseline G710

• 48 to 74 cm of 3 cm high elastic

• 4.50 m of piping if you want to highlight the side stripe

If you make the side stripe from a different fabric than the main fabric, allow for a 1 m high piece of fabric.

❓ Can I use a contrasting fabric for the side stripe?

Yes, it's even a beautiful way to personalize your trousers!

You can play with a print, a different material or a contrasting color to create a unique version of MELLOW. The yardage for the stripe alone is provided for this purpose.

❓ Are the MELLOW trousers suitable for sewing beginners?

Yes! That's precisely the goal of the model: to offer accessible trousers for a first sewing experience.

The comfortable cut, elasticated back waist, and accompanying explanations make the process progressive and enjoyable.

❓ Can I transform the pattern into shorts or lengthen it?

You can easily vary the length of the trousers, whether for adapting to your height or following your desires. The pattern is free, have fun!

Transforming it into shorts will require a toile fitting and likely flaring the thigh more for a nice drape.

❓ Where can I find the pattern instructions?

The MELLOW PDF pattern is available with assembly instructions.

Our PDF patterns are offered in A4, A3, A0, and US Letter formats, with frames for easy marking, layers to choose your size, and a video projection option for paperless cutting.

The contest takes place EXCLUSIVELY on Instagram. For your participation to be considered, you must meet these different criteria:

The grand winner will be chosen by the Maison Fauve team based on the beauty of the project and its presentation in the seamstress's publication.
We will not be able to take into account images sent to us via DM, and only public profiles will be able to participate (otherwise we won't be able to see your creation). The 3 PDF pattern winners will be drawn from all participants. The contest is open internationally and results will be announced on Friday, September 4th, on the pinned contest Instagram post on our profile and in our story.
