FAQ The Bestiary: Maison Fauve's Wild Couture Capsule

Maison Fauve Unveils The Bestiary Capsule Collection

Le Bestiaire, where print takes over. Under the scorching sun, in a raw and mineral atmosphere, animal motifs unleash their full power of attraction: the tiger appears majestically on our new viscose jacquards, it shines brightly on viscose poplin and even transforms into a daring zebra.

The Ocello and Pantera jacquards, stars of last winter, as well as the Leo print that has graced our poplins for several seasons, join our fierce menagerie, for a Bestiary with undeniable Fauve accents.

This capsule also holds another surprise: 2 new patterns for summer, the draped Lioness top and the Peacock cuffed shorts. They beautifully complement the Natural High collection and immerse us in summer's languor.

Key pieces of the capsule

The Peacock shorts pattern

The Peacock shorts reinvent summer shorts: a structured line with stitched pleats, hidden pockets, and a beautiful cuff. Peacock embodies relaxed elegance: the cut is comfortable but not oversized, and the length allows it to be worn in all circumstances.

Fabric choice: tested and approved in gabardine, medium-weight jacquard, tencel doupion, linen, and cotton, as well as denim, it will follow your desires and adapt to all styles.

The Lioness top pattern

The Lioness top is a gem that is not limited to the magnificent drape of its neckline. The model is cut on the bias, which gives the garment a particularly feminine fall. Thanks to its wide straps, it can be worn easily with a bra.

Fabric choice: ONLY WOVEN FABRICS, fluidity is an asset to give the cowl neck its prestige. We have sewn it in doupion, viscose poplin, fine viscose jacquard, and tencel. Minimalist plain or striking print, it's up to you to decide the look you prefer for the draped Lioness top.

Strong fabrics for unique creations

The Tiger jacquard

Viscose jacquard is a staple of the Maison Fauve Fabric Library. If you are familiar with this fabric and appreciate its suppleness and very luminous finish, the tiger weave immediately gives it something unexpected. And it certainly won't have escaped your notice how the tiger has been joining the leopard in collections for several seasons. Here, it plays the "false solid" and brings character to garments. The 4 available colors allow for very different looks:

  • ecru

  • smoky

  • magenta

  • black

The Savage print

Our new Savage print is a marvel: hand-painted, the watercolor lines make it unique and more poetic. The size of the tiger stripes has been designed to make it visually strong without being overwhelming. Through the magic of colors, Savage becomes zebra, bolder but just as desirable.

Savage poplin

Supple and light, it is ideal for fluid and comfortable pieces: a beautiful Linger dress to roar on summer evenings, a goddess-like Lioness top, or a Skyline shirt that will shake up a tidy power dressing.

Available in:

  • cumin tiger

  • off-white zebra

FAQ – All about Le Bestiaire

❓ What are the differences between the LIONESS top and the TEMPÊTE blouse?

The construction is very different:

  • the drape of the TempĂȘte blouse is created by pleats, while that of Lioness is due to the bias cut,

  • the depth of the neckline is much greater on the Lioness top: it is a true cowl neck that clears the neck, while the TempĂȘte blouse sits much higher,

  • the body of Lioness is more fitted, and plays on the bias of the fabric,

  • Lioness is constructed with straps and does not require a zipper, unlike the sleeveless version of the TempĂȘte blouse.

❓ Can I lengthen the Lioness top into a dress?

The bust of the pattern is cut on the bias, which gives the top its particular and elaborate shaping. Lengthening the model into a dress will require fittings and adjustments to provide the necessary ease at the hips and, above all, a harmonious drape. This is therefore possible but will require a little practice and at least one toile to validate the transformations and especially a bias-cut dress that fits well.

❓ Can I raise the neckline of the Lioness top?

The construction of the cowl neck responds to a balance between the initial height of the upper bust and the drape induced by the bias cut. It will require practice and certainly trials on toiles to modify this portion of the pattern.

❓ Can I perform a full bust adjustment (FBA) on the Lioness top?

The pattern does not have a classic bust dart and no bust adjustment was necessary for the different body types for which the pattern was tested. But you can easily make this adjustment by adding a dart and then adapting its depth according to the explanations provided in our free guide to custom sewing.

❓ Can sleeves be added to the Lioness top pattern?

The pattern does not have an armhole tracing suitable for this type of transformation. It is a top with wide straps, which can be worn without problems with a bra. Adding sleeves will require a significant transformation of the pattern as well as a change in the assembly instructions.

❓ What are the differences between the Peacock, Grand Bain, and BĂ©lem shorts patterns?

The construction is very different:

  • The Grand Bain shorts have no cuffs, the back is embellished with decorative flaps and not pockets, the Italian pocket has a particular cut and is not concealed in a pleat. The length and width of the leg opening are quite similar between Peacock and Grand Bain.

  • The Belem pattern is a trouser pattern, and we guide you to transform it into shorts. Compared to Belem, the Peacock shorts zip on the side and not the front with a fly, the back is not elasticated, the front pleats do not unfold as on Belem and they are not constructed in the same way (on Belem they extend to the waistband like belt loops). The leg opening is also narrower. The back pockets of Peacock are true patch pockets, while on Belem they are decorative flaps.

❓ Can I lengthen the Peacock shorts into trousers?

The cut of the shorts offers ease, you will get trousers with wide legs by extending the side and inseam lines.

❓ Can I remove the cuff from the Peacock shorts?

You can easily remove the cuffs by considering the "bottom cuff" line as the finished length of the shorts. You will then need to redraw the side and inseam lines at the bottom of the shorts (and remember to add a hem allowance).

❓ Is the Lioness top suitable for beginners?

The pattern has few pieces and sews up very quickly. It will require meticulousness from the cutting stage because laying pattern pieces on the bias of the fabric makes the fabric more "slippery" during cutting. However, the pattern does not involve complex technical points (no zippers, no button plackets, no complex sewing techniques). By using an easy-to-sew fabric like our doupion or cotton poplin and with the help of the free video tutorial, the pattern is accessible to all skill levels of sewers.

❓ Is the Tiger jacquard difficult to sew?

It is a 100% viscose jacquard, with matte and satin areas that give the fabric its "false solid" appearance, while highlighting the tiger motif.

The fabric does not have an "up and down" direction, and it can be sewn on both sides as you wish.

It is a little slippery, due to its silky hand. We recommend, if you are a beginner sewer, to choose patterns with simple construction and few pieces to avoid stretching the fabric. For sewing this type of fluid and supple fabric, we recommend suitable needles (microtex).

❓ Can prints and textures be mixed?

Yes, that's the whole spirit of the Le Bestiaire capsule. In the Clash the Rhythm capsule, we offered a new gabardine in black, navy, and mastic. Feel free to combine our new SAVAGE print with black or mastic gabardines. Whether it's the Cumin Tiger or Off-white Zebra version, the backgrounds adopt neutral tones that mix much more easily with other fabrics than it seems.

The black and ecru colors of the TIGER jacquard are easy to treat as solid fabrics; they will look beautiful when combined with the Savage print.
TIGER jacquards are also perfect for spicing up gabardines: navy and smoky, navy and ecru, all-over black – it's easy to combine the fabrics. And to stay within the mix and match of animal prints, the combination of the OCELLO jacquard and our new tiger jacquards is also a success.
The magenta TIGER jacquard will be the tangy note to combine with denim blue, but also white.

❓ What colors are available for the Tiger jacquard?

The beauty of viscose jacquard lies in the alternation of matte and satin areas, which acts like a false solid. We offer 4 colors, from the most timeless to the most audacious: Ecru, Smoky Black, and Magenta.
