The new boss of the holiday capsule

The NOTTE dress

NOTTE is the ball gown reimagined: contemporary, feminine, and comfortable, it's perfect for parties. The sweetheart neckline flatters the neckline, while the defined waist and structured bust with pleats create a graceful and effortless silhouette.

Two back options (full or buttoned) and two skirt lengths allow for a variety of styles. The cut allows for several fabric choices: a glamorous evening gown in elegant fabrics with high heels, or a more everyday look in beautifully draped solid colors and ankle boots.

The shortened sleeves and flowing skirt with an elasticated back and concealed pockets combine comfort and freedom of movement . The pattern is suitable for intermediate and advanced sewers. A video tutorial will also be available from the launch of the capsule to guide you through each step of the process.

The new Notte sewing box

The Notte Box celebrates the elegance of the holidays with everything needed to create the Notte dress:

  • The NOTTE pattern comes in a printed envelope featuring a design from the L'Avventura collection, the pattern sheet, and an illustrated instruction booklet. The pattern is printed at actual size, the pattern pieces do not overlap on the sheet, and seam allowances are included. It is available in sizes 34 to 52.

  • A coupon of Pantera black and light gold cotton and light lurex jacquard to make the long version of the dress.

  • 5 Wink glossy black shank buttons with gold detail

  • Iron-on interfacing suitable for the fabric, a length of elastic for the back, a 40cm invisible zipper, a spool of black sewing thread, a set of microtex needles, and a Femme Fauve label.

The new fabrics

Jacquard fabrics are part of Maison Fauve's DNA. They bring a "couture" look to even the simplest patterns in their construction, and each creation becomes an exceptional piece.

This capsule collection of fabrics opens up a world of creative possibilities. From plays of sheen and drape to the most fluid and textured fabrics, discover our new fabrics for your future sewing projects.

Ocello medium-weight jacquard

Inspired by leopard print but leaning towards abstraction, the Ocello jacquard features a pattern highlighted with lurex thread that appears different on each side. This reversible and versatile jacquard is perfect for short jackets, blazers, or even trousers or shorts for a bold head-to-toe look. A beautiful trapeze dress would also be a smart choice, and why not mix and match pieces by playing with the two sides of the fabric?

Pantera cotton and lightweight lurex jacquard

The Pantera jacquard fabric features Maison Fauve's iconic leopard print in a very elegant black and light gold version. Supple, lightweight, and easy to sew, it will look just as beautiful on a blouse or shirt for a striking feline touch as it will as it will in a dramatic head-to-toe dress!

Pietra viscose poplin

Already available in Cinnamon, Cherry Red, Plum, and Lavender, the Pietra poplin now comes in a Black Marble version with the pattern in shades of gray. Strikingly elegant, this new variation highlights the mineral inspiration of the design.

Jacquard Lucente

Lucente is a 100% viscose jacquard whose weave forms delicate dots with a subtle sheen on the satin side of the fabric. It is very supple, lightweight, and fluid. The material and weave play with the light depending on whether you choose to sew the matte or satin side of the fabric. It is available in the range of colors featured this season at Maison Fauve: Tango Red , Plum , Iced Brown , and Moss Green , as well as in a timeless, deep Black .

FAQ – Christmas Capsule

Regarding the Notte pattern and the sewing box

Will the new Notte pattern be available in PDF format?
All our new patterns are only available in printed form with a detailed booklet and video tutorial included. PDF versions will be available online later. This video explains how we work with the PDF format.

Can I choose between the different versions of the pattern (back/length) within the sewing box?
The sewing kit includes the supplies to make the long, button-back version of the pattern. It won't be possible to personalize the kit, but you can of course omit the button back or shorten the length.

Can I sew Notte in a fabric other than the one in the box?
Yes, provided you respect the weight and recommended guidelines. Our dupioni and viscose poplins are perfectly suitable. These fabrics weigh between 110 and 160 g/m2.

Very fluid or very light fabrics, which easily deform on the bias, are not recommended: they complicate the marking of the pleats and risk causing a deformation of the neckline.

Can the back of the Notte dress be altered?
The NOTTE dress pattern allows you to choose between a full or buttoned back. For further customization, you will need to consider the specific construction of the pattern, including the neckline sewn in a casing that also creates the shoulder pleat.

Can the Notte dress be sewn without sleeves?
The pattern features a pleat at the shoulder, which has a unique finish on the inside of the garment thanks to a casing construction. Removing the sleeve and neatly redoing the armhole will require specific adjustments not included in the pattern, and for which no tutorial is currently available. But if you're comfortable with pattern making, anything is possible ;)

Can a blouse be sewn using the Notte dress pattern?
The bodice and pleat construction is not designed for wearing as a blouse, as the bottom of the pleats is sewn to the skirt at the waistline. We have not tested lengthening the pattern pieces to create a blouse version, nor have we observed how the pleats would behave, so we cannot guarantee a harmonious result.

Can the neckline of the Notte dress be altered?
The sweetheart neckline is the signature of the design, but you can easily adjust the neckline if you want to "simplify" the look, and get a front with a low neckline (dancer, boat neck, etc...).

In this case, do not adjust the shoulder length; instead, measure from the shoulder at the neckline. You can then, if you wish, set the front on the fold (reduce the center front seam allowance and do the same for the facing). Always keep in mind the specific construction of the pattern, where the neckline facing, sewn in a casing, also creates the shoulder fold. Always make a muslin to confirm your alterations.

Can the front of the Notte dress be cut at the fold to avoid the center front seam?
The sweetheart neckline has a very pronounced point, which gives it its lovely, distinctive shape. This effect cannot be achieved by sewing the piece on the fold. Follow the pattern instructions for the specific steps involved in assembling the bodice.

Can the length of the Notte dress be adjusted?
The pattern includes two lengths : mid-calf and above the knee. You can also easily adjust the length by cutting the pattern along the "cut along this line for the short version" if you want a longer or shorter skirt.

The dress is shown in the lookbook and on the product sheets worn by Emilie (36/1m63) in long and short versions, Julie (40/1m70) and Vanina (50 in bust and 52 in skirt/1m70) in long version and without modification of the length.

The bodice pieces as well as the sleeve also have shortening/lengthening lines for height adjustments.

We support you in this type of alteration with our Little Guide to Made-to-Measure Sewing .

Regarding fabrics

Are the new Ocello, Lucente, and Pantera jacquards easy to sew? What patterns do you recommend using these fabrics?

These 3 jacquards are very different, and each has its own specific characteristics.

Lucente viscose satin jacquard is a soft, supple, and very fluid fabric that requires some sewing practice. It is lighter than Poésie viscose jacquard. We recommend patterns without overly pronounced construction lines or numerous pattern pieces if you are not an advanced sewer. It will be perfect for sewing garments that showcase its drape, such as the Mia dress or blouse, the Tempête draped-neck blouse, a pretty camisole like the Spritz tank top, but also patterns accessible to less experienced sewers like the Belle Épine top, the Violette blouse, the Marisa top, or the Palma top. It is completely opaque and does not require lining.

Pantera lightweight jacquard is a soft and light fabric, though less fluid than viscose jacquard. It has a beautiful drape and adds structure to garments without being stiff. It's perfect for sewing dresses like the Notte, Cuba Libre, Petula, and Haut Vol, as well as blouses and tops like the Hespéride, Scala, Santa Fe, Belle Épine, Volata, and Petula. It's too lightweight for jackets and too delicate for structured trousers. However, it's suitable for sewing a skirt like the Silvana or the Highland ruffled skirt, or flowing trousers like the Soupir.
Although vaporous, it is perfectly opaque, and does not need to be lined.

The medium-weight Ocello jacquard is thicker and has more body. It's also thicker than our previous Fauve Party jacquard. Its weave adds depth and texture to the fabric. It's perfect for sewing short jackets like the Pilar, Damas, Calypso, and Metropolis, and will add structure to tailored jackets like the Mimosa and Manhattan. It will also look beautiful on an A-line skirt like the Grenadine, a structured dress like the Pétula or the longer version of the Cicadella, Grand Bain shorts, or the Récif trousers. It will be too thick for wide-legged pleated trousers like the Brooklyn.

What are the reverse and right sides of jacquard fabrics?
Our three new jacquard fabrics are as beautiful on the reverse side as on the right, and can be sewn from either side. You are free to choose the side you prefer: more or less satin for Lucente, more or less lurex for Pantera, light or dark background for Ocello. The same applies to the Pampa jacquard.

Do the new fabrics have a direction (top/bottom)?
Our three new jacquard fabrics are directional, so you can place your pattern pieces upside down when sewing if you wish. There are also no pattern matching issues to consider because the woven motifs are randomly distributed.

Which lining should I choose for the Ocello jacquard?
The Ocello jacquard will look beautiful paired with linings in matching colours: beige, ochre, black, brown or sand tones (like our cupro linings in Mocha, Champagne, Bronze, Black or Olive).

Which buttons/haberdashery items should I choose for the new jacquards?
Lucente jacquards have matching threads and buttons. We offer zippers in colors as close as possible to the fabrics and available from our manufacturer.

The Pantera jacquard will look very beautiful sewn in black thread and with black and/or light gold buttons (Wink Glossy buttons as in the Notte box, Bijoux buttons, mother-of-pearl 2-hole black buttons, Sequin buttons).

For the Ocello jacquard, we recommend the Beige Rosé yarn, and our range of light gold metal buttons—Bijou, Talisman, Egide, and Poppy Noir—are available in various diameters to suit your projects. The Pop Noir ankle boot buttons are also a lovely choice.

Is it necessary to have an overlock machine?
An overlock machine is recommended for quick and durable finishes, especially on jacquards which tend to fray more easily during washing. However, you can also opt for bias binding finishes, or adjust the seam allowances of patterns for lighter fabrics to create French seams.

Note: Our patterns include seam allowances of 1 cm unless otherwise stated.

I hope you enjoy discovering our new products, and see you Wednesday at 9am for the online launch of the Fêtes Fauve!
