Sewing tutorial: How to make a plaid fabric connection?
Checkered fabric connection
Do you dream of sewing checked fabrics, tartan, Prince of Wales fabrics, but having to manage the connections on a printed or patterned fabric scares you?!
This new sewing secret is made for you!
When it was first put online our Scott cotton tweed with its beautiful tartan pattern was a great success and I don't want you to be lost as to how to cut a patterned fabric with the specific example of the match for a checked fabric.
I'll show you how to do the pattern match on this tartan, focusing on the horizontal line matches (on this fabric the patterns have a vertical repeat which would use up far too much fabric).
The question of horizontal and vertical connections will be addressed (don't worry!) with the example of the patch pockets with flap of the Pam coat.
For the pieces with the mention do not cut in the straight grain, we will not look for connections which will be too complicated to align with the rest of the garment (here the underside of the collar whose middle back does not follow the direction of the straight grain) but the piece being x2 we will look for symmetry.
We are currently preparing a second tutorial where I will describe the steps to assemble several pieces of fabric with the squares that will fit perfectly on the fronts, backs, sleeves and pockets. And I will show you how to sew your Pam coat without lining.
Up to you !
