Varsity Striped Viscose Jacquard Fabric Library

The timelessness of striped fabrics

New to the Nomade capsule , the VARSITY viscose jacquard plays on fine stripes and classic colors, which evoke shirts borrowed from the men's wardrobe.
With its fluid drape and weave embellished with a subtle lurex thread, VARSITY twists classic codes for a look that is both graphic and refined.
Inspired by university elegance, preppy looks, and sporty chic tailoring, it accompanies loose cuts or sharp silhouettes with the same ease.

Varsity stripe look inspirations

Outfit Idea 1: I chose to play on the duality of "sport" clothing and with the more "academic" stripe. The casualness of the jogging pants is shaken up by the rigor of the striped shirt. In this outfit, I combine the Mimosa blazer in Navy dupion, the Scala shirt in Emerald Green Varsity and the Sacha jogging pants in light gray heather felpa sweatshirt.
Result: a modern silhouette that's easy to wear every day.

Outfit Idea 2: Why not play with stripes in a total look? Very popular for summer, the mix of soft shorts and matching shirt is refreshing, playful, and easily slips on over a swimsuit. An outfit that's sure to be charming for relaxing days by the sea. I'm wearing the Scala shirt and Songe shorts in Varsity Emerald Green.

Look idea 3: What if we play with colors? The "preppy" look never ceases to inspire us, and playing with different colors and the direction of the stripes will give a whole new flavor to your hand-sewn shirt (enough to make your creation even more unique!). Perfect with light or white denim, a beautiful Skyline shirt or a Scala shirt in multi-flavor Varsity will be a nice sewing idea.

Which sewing projects should you choose Varsity for?

This fabric can be used to sew many patterns from the Maison Fauve wardrobe:

  • Tops and polo shirts : The Malibu polo shirt in Varsity Cobalt Blue is just perfect. We sewed the collar and button placket in white tencel to play on the contrast and the "sporty" look. A short-sleeved version of the Cicadella top, a Spritz tank top duo, or the Marisa top will also be great alternatives for a summer sewing project.

  • Elegant blouses : Featured in Lemonade Yellow with the Déferlante blouse pattern, the fabric is also perfect for the Tempête draped collar blouse, the beautiful Hespéride gathered back blouse, or the Péninsule pussy-bow dress blouse hack.

  • A shirt that doesn't lack style : the Scala shirt looks majestic in the Emerald Green stripe, but the Vittoria shirt, the Skyline shirt or the Atlas blouse will also be a promising choice.

  • A total striped look ensemble : the Soupir pattern will be a little gem for a beautiful striped pajama (a classic), and of course you can bet on a Songe and Blush duo. Combined with the Mimosa blazer jacket in Marron glacé dupion, it's just wow!

Against the crisp white background, three bold colors stand out: an intense cobalt blue, a deep emerald green, and a vibrant lemonade yellow. These shades were chosen for their graphic strength and subtle contrast, modernizing the lines while evoking a preppy wardrobe with a studied look.
Varsity tells the story of a silhouette that embraces the mix of genres: masculine rigor, chromatic energy, fluidity of viscose jacquard... A perfect base for reinventing your essentials.

Sewing Tips for Varsity Stripes

  • Recommended needles : A 70/10 Microtex needle to respect the fineness of the fiber. Viscose jacquard also features lurex threads, and these fine needles for delicate fabrics are ideal.

  • Cutting : The Varsity stripe is woven horizontally. If you want to work the fabric with a vertical stripe, you will have to rethink your cutting plans and your yardage for a pattern that consumes more than 1.50m of fabric in 140 width. We are not able to provide you with the desired consumption because it varies depending on the pattern, your grading size and possible adjustments. The width is 150cm wide, you will need to place your pieces on a 150cm high rectangle and see the width that your pieces occupy.

  • Finishing : Varsity jacquard frays slightly, use overlock or French seams for a flawless finish.

  • Care : delicate wash at 30°C in a laundry bag, gentle spin , iron at medium temperature. No tumble drying.

Assorted haberdashery

As always, we have selected the haberdashery suitable for Varsity:

  • White sewing thread (a safe bet) or coordinated with the color of the stripes for each colorway.

  • Natural mother-of-pearl hole buttons (a timeless classic), Wink Mat satin or Wink Glossy pearl buttons for your blouses and shirts.

  • Lightweight iron-on adhesives (G710) for stabilizing cuffs, collars and button plackets.
