Strawberry sorbet and whipped cream, for a delicious Kim and Tribeca duo!
Good morning !
Winter is coming to an end and my head is full of colors and warming light. The new Maison Fauve collection is slowly taking shape (the patterns are being printed, the shooting is imminent, the fabrics are neatly rolled up... Ahhhh, can't wait for the end of the month!).
While it's too early to reveal our future gems, I'm delighted to show you today a sewing project that accompanies the launch of the new Studio Walkie Talkie collection : a Kim skirt sewn in their magnificent Happy denim-effect fabric, in the irresistible candy pink color called Aquagym.
A tangy Kim skirt
I chose to sew the buttoned front version of the pattern with this slightly thick fabric. Indeed, the Kim skirt is also available as a wrap skirt but the fabric has a lot of hold so it was not appropriate. For the same reason, I preferred the pocket with band rather than the flap version. I also shortened my skirt a little, already cut in an above-the-knee version, to really give it the look of the soooo 80's denim skirts.
A very Vanilla Sky Tribeca/Kim duo
The pattern of the fabric is reminiscent of clouds, like a soft pink spring sky. So I paired my new Kim with my Tribeca blouse in white tencel . I opted for our light gold jewel buttons on both clothes (the small ones for Tribeca and the large ones for Kim), they bring a precious touch that reinforces the girly side of the outfit even more (especially for the skirt).
The swirls created by the cutouts and biases of Tribeca respond to the curves of the clouds on my skirt, and it is a vanilla-colored sky that is drawn thanks to the magic of the framing of our photographer Charlène Pélut, by finding the blue tones of the background.
Moreover, the Happy fabric also comes in shades of blue, from raw blue to soft blue, to play on the entire range of denim. I sewed the Happy in black and snow (a gray gradient) this winter with the Hussard pants pattern and the result was stunning ( find the Journal article here )! The new summer variation in blue and pastel pink gives the fabric a very attractive pop and vintage look. Studio Walkie Talkie explains that the "washed" look that defines the fabric's patterns is not due to a chemical fading treatment: it is the weaving that gives it a color gradient.
With my immaculate Tribeca and my sorbet-colored Kim skirt, I'm eagerly awaiting spring! How would you imagine sewing this fabric that really has a crazy charm? I almost made it into a Pilar jacket , but I managed to keep a cool head, because my wardrobe already has its fair share (for the moment hihihi) of little jackets with Fauve details ;) I would say that this fabric is perfect for mid-season jackets, jeans or cargo pants, a pretty skirt so hihihi but also accessories ( a Fauve bob would be just wow in it). Be careful, it is quite heavy (300g/m2) and without elasticity, it is not suitable for clothes that require fluid fabrics or with elastane.
Studio Walkie Talkie does not sell its fabrics directly, but I'm giving you the link to their various resellers here , and find them on Instagram to discover all the fabrics in the new collection.
