Petula and Jacquard Poetry Box - FAQ
During the launch of our Mother's Day Instagram contest, you discovered the lovely new addition to the À Fleur De Peau collection: the Pétula sewing box . Let me give you a detailed overview of our brand new sewing pattern, a little gem that will soon be joining the Maison Fauve Patronthèque.
The new Couture Box – Pétula in viscose jacquard Poésie
A brand new pattern is arriving to celebrate summer at Maison Fauve: the Pétula dress and blouse duo . A summery sewing project that has everything to become the perfect little dress that you will love to wear: a beautiful V-neckline in the front and back, a line accentuated by darts, and the couture signature dear to Maison Fauve: gathered shoulder panels that drape nicely and soften the graphic line of the model. And to offer you a turnkey sewing experience, we've thought of everything. The Pétula sewing box also includes a new, stunning fabric: Poésie viscose jacquard.
Viscose Jacquard Poetry
We are passionate about viscose jacquard. The beauty of this fabric lies in its "faux plain" effect that alternates between matte areas and satin embroidered patterns, giving an incomparable precious touch to your creations.
After the Léo jacquard and the Lily jacquard, I am delighted to present our new product: the Poésie viscose jacquard . Its floral pattern is extremely delicate, and its arrival in the universe " “À Fleur De Peau” sounds like an obvious addition to the Maison Fauve textile collections.
Available in:
This fabric has a beautiful drape, is easy to sew and iron. It will be perfect for creating dresses, blouses, and shirts. Pleats and drapes will be beautifully highlighted. In the lighter colors, if you want to sew a skirt or dress, a lining or slip is recommended.
The choice of viscose jacquard is obvious for this pattern: it has a beautiful drape, is easy to iron, and the material effect linked to the floral embroidery magnifies the pleats of the shoulders, giving the pattern its full dimension. The sewing box for the Pétula dress or blouse includes everything you need to get started on your project. See the Pétula box
FAQ – Pétula Sewing Box
Does the Pétula sewing box contain everything you need to sew my garment?
The Maison Fauve sewing box contains absolutely all the necessary materials: the Pétula pocket pattern, a piece of fabric in the length adapted to your size range, the matching spool of thread, a needle set adapted to the fabric, the gathering elastic for smocking, iron-on adhesive, iron-on straight grain. All you have to do is choose the Poésie jacquard color that will make you fall in love!
I am a beginner, what level of sewing is recommended for sewing Pétula?
The pattern is recommended for an intermediate sewing level because several technical points are covered:
-
Sew gathers
-
Place a gathering elastic
-
Make pliers, especially diamond-shaped pliers
A free step-by-step video will guide you through each step of sewing your pattern. It's accessible even if you haven't yet purchased Pétula (like all our sewing tutorials), and it will help you consider whether these technical points are within your reach.
The Pétula dress/blouse doesn't have a closure system?
No zipper, no button placket, the Pétula dress has a trapeze shape that will be accentuated by darts. More fitted than the Daïquiri model, it nevertheless slips on easily.
Can sleeves be added to the Pétula pattern?
The raglan cut and shoulder yokes are not designed to accommodate a sleeve, it will require significant patternmaking work to adapt the pattern to create a sleeve.
I prefer rounded necklines rather than V-necks, can I adapt the Pétula pattern?
It's possible to rework the neckline at the front and back to create a softer curve. You'll also need to remember to trace the neckline seams. Do not touch the neckline seam, as this could alter the shape of the model and the position of the shoulders.
Can the dress be lengthened so that it falls below the knee?
You can easily vary the length of the model by extending the bottom of the pieces directly. The trapeze cut will adapt very well to an elongated version.
Can I easily make chest adjustments to the Pétula pattern?
The pattern includes bust darts and diamond darts. Our tailoring guide, available here, provides several methods for using these darts to tailor the pattern to your body shape.
You are only showing the box pattern in your new jacquard, but can we use other fabrics to sew Pétula?
Yes, of course! Lightweight fabrics that drape beautifully and iron easily will be perfect for sewing Pétula. Find our recommendations for fabric selection on the product sheet and in the pattern brochure. Our new solids, dupion and tencel satin, will be a wonderful choice for sewing Pétula.
We even guide you through the sewing steps for a lined version of the pattern, if you want to sew Pétula in lace, muslin, or broderie anglaise. The brochure includes a dedicated section with details of the supplies as well as the sewing steps illustrated with diagrams.
There are quite a few haberdashery items recommended for sewing the pattern (straight grain and iron-on, gathering elastic), are they really necessary?
Pétula's front and back necklines are V-shaped, so on the bias. The short sleeves will create a rounded shape that will be all the prettier if it holds its shape. To ensure the neckline holds its shape, it is strongly recommended to iron-on these areas (everything is indicated in the brochure). You can also replace the iron-on straight grain with classic iron-on interfacing, cutting strips to the desired dimensions.
Gathering elastic for smocking allows for a more harmonious and even distribution of gathers along the shoulder line. You can choose to use a simple gathering thread, but this will require a little more care. We detail this alternative in the brochure under the heading "sewing a lined dress/blouse."
Can I buy fabrics by the meter/Pétula's pattern outside of the box?
Yes, all fabrics in the capsule collection are available to cut, while supplies last. It's also possible to purchase the Pétula dress/blouse pattern outside of the sewing box. You'll find specific pattern recommendations/fabric choices on each product page.
The sewing box is an "all-inclusive" option, but nothing stops you from creating your own fabric + pattern combination!
I hope you enjoy discovering Pétula; the box format is a lovely gift to give or to treat yourself! Don't hesitate to also find some sewing gift inspiration in our Mother's Day gift guide: a precious coupon, a new pattern, a perfume unlike any other, and many other wonders await you.
