Bold Bermuda shorts, I sew my summer suit with the Brooklyn hack!
If there is one trend that divides, it is this: for or against Bermuda shorts?!
A piece initially associated with men's wardrobes, Bermuda shorts have been making a remarkable breakthrough for several seasons, and the idea of trying the exercise tickled me.
I like it when Bermuda shorts have a straight, slightly loose cut, with a defined waist and the option to wear them with a belt. So I decided to start with a pattern whose cut allows for easy hacking and a great result: the Brooklyn pants .

The Brooklyn hack in Bermuda shorts
With their beautiful pleats and palazzo cut, the Brooklyn pants are perfect for making into Bermuda shorts. The pattern modifications are very easy: I shortened them so that the inseam length was 35.5 cm (I'm 1m63 and I wanted a length just below the knee). I then added a very slight ease to the side seam. Everything is detailed in this step-by-step video .

Our tailoring wool is of magnificent quality: 100% merino wool , woven in England, it is very supple and soft. Its drape is perfect for the Brooklyn pattern, with its wide leg and pretty pleats.
In order to sew a less conventional suit, and to take my idea to the next level, I paired it with a jacket using the Mimosa sewing pattern : with its beautiful defined shoulders and straight cut, the masculine-feminine look is totally embraced in this Bermuda shorts/blazer duo. In black wool, it's also a jacket that I'll also wear a lot unmatched from this outfit.
As the end-to-end tailoring fabric we are offering you is very flexible, I decided to interface the front and the short side of the jacket with Vlieseline G785 fusible interfacing (in addition to all the pieces already indicated as fusible interfacing withG700 in the pattern) to give it a little more hold but without distorting the flexibility of the fabric. I also describe this step in the Brooklyn hack video .
To dress up my blazer, I chose thePoppy Grège buttons , which contrast with the deep black of the wool and echo the Bronze lining from Mimosa.
The result really lives up to my expectations: the softness of the tailored wool, the cut of the jacket, the choice of Bermuda shorts, the whole thing exudes a great modernity!
How to wear Bermuda shorts
Bermuda shorts are a statement piece, and I decided not to be half-hearted with the looks I proposed. Boldness is part of the game, but it's also a way to explore the look around my new summer ensemble.
Edgy-romantic look
A touch of lace always softens the silhouette. And it's a fabric that goes very well with patterns with simple lines. For this summer, and for this outfit, I couldn't resist sewing a little top in Acanthe Vert Scarabée lace : it's a very elegant fabric with its deep green reflections, and it goes wonderfully with our new Spritz tank top pattern . The pattern has very beautiful finishes (bias, French seam) so it's perfect for sewing lace and openwork fabrics. I played with the scalloped edge of the lace for the bottom of my top, so chic!
And to add a slightly offbeat touch to the outfit, I'm wearing chunky-soled, strappy sandals and long black lace socks that I'm corking up at my ankles. I had in mind the slightly gothic/romantic/underground looks of Japanese women. With the suit/Bermuda shorts, the result is stunning!

Second look, very different atmosphere. This time I'm wearing my beautiful Malibu polo shirt in crochet knit, with a black button placket and collar. The polo shirt is a bit of a sporty garment (well, more like a clubhouse sport than an active sport, hehe) and it brings a touch of elegant casualness that really sets off the outfit. With beautiful heeled sandals and little jewel-like buttons , it's a look that I particularly like and that I replay every season for Maison Fauve: a mix of casual and strict, feminine without excess, with pretty accessories.

Divisive, whether you love it or are totally against it, I have chosen my side. And I guarantee you that you will see my brand new sewing project summer and winter (I can't wait to try it with my big black heeled boots, a little neo-bourgeois inspiration à la Céline in perspective ;) ).
